A treatment plant is a long commitment, not a delivery. The work that decides what it costs you after year one starts before anything is installed and carries on for as long as the plant runs.

Where it starts

Water analysis

Treatment design starts with understanding the supply, because the supply is the one variable nobody gets to choose. A system specified without a reading is a guess with equipment attached.

  • What the supply carries, measured rather than assumed
  • Whether the source is mains, bore, tanker or stored
  • How much variation there is between readings
  • What the treated water has to be suitable for

02 · Before anything is bought

System design

Design is where the reading becomes a plant: what capacity, which pretreatment stages, which components, and how it will physically live in the building.

Capacity planning
Daily requirement and peak demand, not just an average figure.
Pretreatment decision
Which stages the analysis actually calls for, and which it does not.
Equipment selection
Vessels, pump, membrane and controls chosen to work as one system.
Space and installation planning
Where it goes, how it is reached, and how it will be serviced later.

03 · On site

Installation & commissioning

Commissioning is the part people forget to ask about. It is where a correctly specified plant is turned into a working one.

    Setting and fixing the plant so it is stable, level and accessible.

04 · Preventive maintenance

The cheap parts protect the expensive one

Preventive maintenance is not a subscription to reassurance. It is checking the things that fail slowly, while they are still cheap to deal with.

Filter inspection and replacement
Cartridges and media assessed against how the supply has loaded them.
Membrane condition
Looking at what output and quality say about how the membrane is doing.
Pump checks
Running condition, noise, leaks and whether it is holding its duty.
Pressure and flow checks
Read together, these are the earliest sign that something is changing.
Leak inspection
Joints, housings and connections, before a seep becomes a failure.
General plant condition
Mountings, pipework, controls and the state of the installation itself.

Service intervals are not published here. What a plant needs depends on what its supply carries — a heavy sediment bore works through pre-filters far faster than a clean mains connection — so a schedule is set against your own water rather than printed on a page.

05 · Parts that are meant to be replaced

Membranes & consumables

Some components are designed to be used up. Knowing which ones, and what tells you they are spent, is most of running a plant well.

RO membranes
Replaced when output and quality show the element is no longer performing, not on a calendar.
Filter cartridges
The routine consumable. How fast they load is a direct read on what the supply is carrying.
Filtration media
The bed inside a pretreatment vessel, which is replaced rather than cleaned once it is spent.
UV components
Where a UV stage is fitted, its lamp and sleeve are consumable parts.

Replacement intervals are not published, because they depend on the plant and the water. Component prices are listed on the domestic components list.

  • RO inspection / service visit

    A look at the plant, its readings and its condition. Parts are separate.

    Labour for a cartridge change on a domestic system.

Service charges apply to domestic systems in Lahore. Commercial and industrial servicing is quoted against the site.

06 · Diagnosis

When output changes, find the cause first

Most plant problems announce themselves before they stop it working. These are the signals, and what each one usually points at.

  • Output flow has dropped

    Something upstream is restricting, or the membrane is not passing what it used to. Which one it is decides the fix.

  • Outlet TDS has risen

    The membrane is letting through more than it was. This is a measurement question before it is a replacement question.

  • Pressure reading has changed

    Read against flow, a change in pressure points at fouling, scaling or a pump that is no longer holding its duty.

  • Unusual noise

    Often the pump, and often air or restriction rather than the pump itself. Worth investigating early.

  • Leaks

    A joint, housing or connection. Small seeps rarely stay small on a pressurised system.

  • Filters blocking frequently

    Usually the supply rather than the filter — the water has changed, or the pretreatment is not matched to it.

These are symptoms to diagnose, not faults to fix at the plant. A treatment system runs on pressurised water and mains electricity, so the safe order is to isolate it and get someone to look at it.

07 · Existing plants

Plant upgrades

A system that no longer fits the building has not necessarily failed. Often what has changed is the demand around it.

Higher demand
The building now uses more treated water than the plant was sized for.
A new pretreatment requirement
The supply has changed, or a new analysis shows something the original design did not have to handle.
A different application
The water is being used for something the original specification did not cover.
Control improvements
Better monitoring and control of a plant that is otherwise sound.
Storage and distribution changes
Where the water has to reach, and how much has to be held, has moved on.

Whether an existing plant can be modified depends on what is already installed and how far it is from what is now needed. Some systems extend cleanly; some are better replaced. That is a survey question, not a catalogue one.
